Infection Control Procedures

We Keep Things Safe

The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has heightened everyone’s emphasis on cleanliness and infection control in their daily lives and at the places, they go for help, especially help to stay healthy.

We understand that your dental health is important to you. It’s important to us, too. You trust us to keep you safe, as well as healthy. And we will do whatever is necessary to keep that trust, especially now. We would never jeopardize the health of you or your family members, whether or not there is a pandemic.

Because we do care about each and every patient, Northern Colorado Periodontics follows rigorous guidelines for disinfection and sterilization at all times, everywhere in the office. We use FDA-approved infection control devices and up-to-date dental disinfection and sterilization techniques including autoclave steam sterilization chemical disinfection and others. All sterilized items are kept in single-use sterile packaging and only opened at the time of use, then re-sterilized or discarded.  Instruments and devices are never re-used without being disinfected and sterilized.

We pay the same level of attention to the furniture and permanent structures in the office.  We disinfect all stationary equipment and structures, including our dental chairs, after each patient, and we do the same on a routine basis for the furniture and counters in our lobby.  We have also implemented a virtual waiting room, minimizing the risk of patients from coming into contact with each other upon arrival at the office, during their visit, and when departing the office.  We are also asking all patients to enter and exit the office wearing their own mask, and to leave that mask on until they are in their own private treatment room.

We Listen and Comply

In response to the particular characteristics of COVID-19, even stricter guidelines have been published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  and the American Dental Association .  We have been diligent in staying informed of these recommendations and incorporating applicable standards into our practice. The experts at the CDC and ADA are the most reliable source of evidence-based guidelines for infection control available to us.

The American Dental Association is also monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and we rely on them as well. Guidance from the ADA is specific to the unique environment and unique needs of dental practices. Their advice is geared to keeping patients and dental workers as safe as possible while still allowing us to provide high-quality, professional treatments.

We at Northern Colorado Periodontics are staying up to date on all of the key directives for dental facilities, in order to be certain that our services are as safe for you as they can be.

We Do It Every Day

We are doing everything we can to provide you and your family a safe dental experience.   As always, we are following CDC hand-hygiene guidelines using disinfectant soap and/or hand sanitizer for at least 20 seconds before and after each patient contact. For all patient visits, we are wearing high-level filtration masks, disposable gloves, gowns, and head covers.  For certain procedures, we are also wearing face shields and other additional disposable items to reduce exposure to aerosols. As always, all at-risk items that have been worn during patient contact are either disposed of or disinfected between each patient.
